Seniors bask in banquet glory

Over the past four years, the 2009 Laker Seniors, have enjoyed the most wins in Apponequet Football history. The seven seniors of this years Laker squad will leave Apponequet with a 34-10 record, something that will be hard to match, but hopefully not!

Steve Laraia, Scott Diniz, Brian Flanagan, Nick Kennedy, Jimmy Gold, Tate Doehler and Joe Bianchini were the recipients of various awards at the annual banquet, which was held at the Riveride this year. "It's hard to believe it's finally over." A teary eyed Nick Kennedy stated after winning the Play of the Year award. "It just went by so quickly."

Many underclassmen enjoyed the fruits of their hard work, including Nate Michael, recipient of this years Extra Effort Award and the Offensive MVP Zack Nanfelt.

Defensive MVP Tate Doehler is one senior looking to take his abilities to the next level, with interests from some area colleges. Joe Bianchini was voted the Lakers' MVP, an award much deserved for his hard work on both sides of the ball.

The banquet as usual featured the yearly highlight film. This year's title "Refuse to Lose", showcased the heart pounding hits and big plays of the Lakers' 8-3 season, a follow-up to the historic 11-0 season of 2008. Included as always were some DVD extra's, which saw a senior interview and the musical talents of Jimmy "Solid" Gold.

Great job to the 2009 Lakers and a much deserved thank you to our graduating Seniors, you have paved the way for Laker Football future!
